Scout Leader’s Report

Welcome back! Since the last 7th Epsom News the group has continued to flourish. If you want to know more make sure that you read the Annual Report for 2005/6 that was presented at the Group AGM.

Highlights of the last few months

Scout summer camp, a week on the Isle of Wight, was a great success the start of the summer holidays. This was quickly followed by the expedition to Uganda when 30 Scouts spent 3 weeks living and working with Ugandan Scouts.

September brought the opportunity of the Group Water Weekend where due to unprecedented demand we had to introduce a waiting list. This is all in addition to the regular weekly meetings and section events!

Next year

2007 is the centenary of Scouting and also the 80th birthday of 7th Epsom. Plans are in hand to try to ensure that it is a year to remember. Just a few of the activities being planned, more are detailed on the web site –

The 4.7.11 Gang Show in the Playhouse, a biennial event. The last show earned the prestigious ‘red scarf’ and we are determined to ensure we meet the standard required.

A BIG camp with 5 Districts over the Spring Bank Holiday for Beavers (day visit), Cubs, Scouts and Explorers. The application form is on our web site and is due in NOW.

The 21st World Scout Jamboree at Chelmsford has around 40,000 Scouts registered and is expecting another 80,000 day visitors. Probably the biggest event to be held in the UK! Certainly larger than the forthcoming Olympics!! Our group has at least six attendees and there are still opportunities for those over 18 to join the International Service Team (IST) and participate in “an experience of a lifetime”.

A great Scout Summer Camp in Essex, hopefully with a visit to the World Jamboree - and our Swedish friends have been invited to join us. The application form is on our web site and is also due in NOW. So make sure that you are part of the fun, watch out for more details and keep an eye on our web site!!
