On the 20th October, nine of 7th Epsom Scouts braved the cold and wet
weather to go on a weekend camp at Bisley Shooting Centre. We were there to
take part in the National Scout Airgun Championships. It included rifle
shooting, pistol shooting and archery. Over 600 Scouts were there in total.
As well as straight forward competition target shooting there was the ‘Knock
Outs’ where you had to shoot at small targets and beat your neighbour to get
through to the next round. When we weren’t shooting we had free time, which
was good fun. During this time we explored the site, watched others
shooting, visited the Bisley shooting museum and played lots of games. There
was an ice-cream van on site and this was very popular. Only one of our
scouts braved the largest sized ice cream, which was about the size of his
head! He felt quite sick afterwards and gave lunch a miss!
Everybody did really well and some of us won medals: Sam Owen (Junior Field
Target – 2nd place), Steph Edmonston (Junior Pistol – 3rd place), and the
team of Steph Edmonston, Sam Owen, Greg Cox and Tom O’Leary (Junior Team
Pistol – 3rd place). We all had a fantastic time and we hope to go back next
year.
