The 7th Epsom Scouts Shooting Club started in March 2006, the purpose is to
instil a high degree of understanding and responsibility around the handling
and use of firearms, by providing members with instruction and practice.
Since then we have has trained 17 Scouts to the level of the National Small
bore Association's Youth Proficiency Scheme, we’ve entered a team into the
annual National Scout Airgun Championships (picking up 6 medals in the
process) and have had a member selected for the National Scout Shooting
Squad!
We now have instructors qualified to run and instruct in small bore “live
ammunition” target shooting, and November and December saw visits to a local
firearms club to give the Scouts an opportunity to try this different style
of shooting.
In 2007, we hope to convert the shooting Club into a fully Home Office
Approved Shooting Club which will enable us to provide more frequent live
ammunition target shooting opportunities and maybe, subject to available
resources, provide some of these opportunities to the wider Epsom and Ewell
Scouting community.
However, to continue to grow and diversify, we need to find enthusiastic and
willing adults who are either involved in shooting as a hobby/sport and/or
who would be willing to train up to help us out by supervising shooting
sessions.
If you feel you would like to get involved and be part of these exciting
plans, please contact Simon Wellsted (details below) for a chat. Here's to a
successful 2007 for the Club.
