| Scout Leaders View's |
Well it has been about a year since I started helping out with the Scout Troop and it is now about 6 months since taking over from Neil Dallen as Scout Leader. And I still haven’t introduced myself to everyone. So if I press myself on you to say hello – it’s just so you can have a face to a name. And I’m still learning all of the names of the children, so my apologies to everyone if I get it wrong or forget, or worse still insult someone!! This year so far we have had overnight hike during the winter months – thanks to all that came along and especially to the leaders/helpers who suffered the cold for 4 nights. And it was cold – the night I camped with them it was down to -4 in the night and only up to -2 when we got up. This most recent set of activities have all been held in the open air, in case you are not getting any detail about what was going on!! Incident trail included – tent pitch and strike in 18 minutes, picture orienteering, morse code, A frame walking and first aid. Backwoods cooking – basically cooking over open fires. Pioneering project – hopefully using the rope tying skills we have been trying to get the scouts doing. Crystal maze – taking 4 scouting based clues/challenges to find 4 hidden crystals. Some current facts about the troop: 112 scouts, 16 patrols, 7 scouts per patrol. There are quite a few older Scouts going up to Explorers after the summer holidays, so we will be changing some of the troop around. We have limited the size of the troop to 112 scouts to give us the best chance of the having the Patrol Leaders take more leadership in getting the activities achieved. So please feel free to contact me by phone or email.
