Our main focus leading up to our expedition is to raise funds so that we can pay for the materials and land needed for our projects out in Uganda. All the people going to Uganda in 2006 are paying for themselves from their own wallet. All the money we raise through group fundraising goes directly to our projects out in Uganda, which does NOT include any safaris etc! Therefore it is very important for us to raise funds while still in the UK, so that we can make as much of a difference as possible when out in Uganda. Your support in coming to our fundraising events is much needed and appreciated, so please read the reviews of our recent fundraising events below. You can also check out the diary page to see the dates of any future events, and the Uganda 2006 page to see what we are going to do with the funds that we raise. Casino Night We are holding our second casino night on the 16th April 05. Our first was extremely popular, and all who went really enjoyed themselves. For more information please ring 01372 276612 or email aitch@hatbog.fsnet.co.uk Uganda Information Meal The evening of Sunday 13th December saw us host our first 'Uganda Information Meal', in cooperation with the Savar Balti House, Waterloo Road. Of the 50 tickets available, we managed to sell a total of 45, which kept the chefs in the curry house busy all night! In total, we raised over £1500. This included the percentage from the tickets, bar and also donations from many people who couldn't make the night. We are very grateful to all the people who came to the meal or donated to the cause, and also to the Curry House for teaming up with us and enabling us to raise so much money. We hope to hold a similar event in 2005 and will keep you updated as to when. Windscreen Washing It was a cold and drizzily November morning. Most of us hadn't fully woken up yet, but the first few cars were starting to pull up to the petrol pumps and so we put on our 'happy faces' and asked whether they wanted their windscreens washed. For some of us, this was the all too familliar fundraising event of windscreen washing in Sainsbury's petrol station, for others, this was the first time. Either way, it wasn't long before we were wishing we had booked a holiday on this weekend so that we could get out of standing in the cold for 4 hours. That aside, we did get quite a few 'yes' responses to washing windscreens (and a few sympathy donations - "Ive just washed the car, but I'll give you a donation anyway"), and in the end, we all decided that it was definitely worth our time and effort. We managed to raise over £800 over the weekend, which allows us to provide 2 villages with protected drinking water for life, so that they don't have the risk of getting waterborne diseases from drinking out of dirty rivers - more than worthwhile for a few hours washing windscreens, I think you'll agree! We would just like to say thank you to all the 'customers' who agreed to letting us go near their cars (as well as those who had "just been through the car wash", but gave a donation anyway) and for making sure our time and effort were well spent in raising money for Uganda; and also to let you know that if your windscreen is looking a bit dirty around the 26th February, you may find a couple of bedraggled souls at Sainsbury's pertrol station with a bucket and sponge! Fireworks Night Among all the hustle and bustle of fireworks night, we managed to organise a small team to stand by the entrance gates and collect donations in our second 'blanket collection' (so named because the donations were thrown onto a blanket held open). It took relatively little work on our behalf, but we managed to raise over £500 for Uganda! A big THANK YOU to everyone who donated! |
