Explorer Scouts are typically between 14 and 18 years of age.
This Unit has a fairly informal approach and the Explorers are encouraged to get involved in its organisation, from suggesting programme activities through to leading entire evenings. This is all done under the supervision of the Explorer Section Lead and Team Members. Sub groups of the Unit are created as the need arises.
Activities can include almost anything that you can think of, from kite making through to bridging the Mole! Our Group is very fortunate to have a number of well-qualified Leaders for climbing, hill walking, canoeing and sailing. Extra activities include several camps, competitions and, occasionally, International Expeditions too.
We also fund raise every year for a charity chosen by the Explorers. Recently, we have raised more than £1,000 for Under One Sky a UK based charity supporting people affected by homelessness.
The Unit meets from 7:30-9:30 pm on Fridays.
Moving Up
As new Scouts come into the Unit the older Explorers have to leave when they get to 18. From then, various options are open; Network Scouting, District Service Team and Young Leaders.
